Alabama Shortstop Jim Jarvis Earns Gold Glove

Alabama senior Jim Jarvis was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association as the nation's best defensive shortstop and named to the Rawlings Gold Glove team.

Jarvis becomes the third player in Crimson Tide history to earn a Gold Glove, joining Taylor Dugas in 2011 and Kyle Overstreet in 2013. 

The shortstop started for the the Crimson Tide for the previous three seasons. In his final season he recorded 102 putouts and made 156 assists with only seven errors for a fielding percentage of .974%. He turned the fourth most double plays in the Southeastern Conference with 39 while also finishing fourth in the conference in assist total.

Jarvis won the award over two other finalists, shortstops Nik McClaughry from Arizona and Grant Smith of Kentucky. He is one of three SEC players earning Gold Glove awards in 2023.

The Gold Glove award is the cherry on top of what was an exceptional fielding career as he was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2023 and carried a .965% fielding percentage over all four years with the Tide. He leaves the Capstone with the eighth most assists all-time with 484.

The California native largely led off in the batting order in 2023, tallying a .273 batting average with six home runs.
