Alabama basketball has already acquired a commitment from the transfer portal as Jaykwon Walton says he will join the Crimson Tide from Wichita State.

Walton, a 6-foot-7, 206-pound guard from Montgomery, Ala., led the Shockers in scoring with 13.9 points per game last season. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and just under two assists while shooting 53.5 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Walton is no stranger to Tuscaloosa; he played junior college basketball at Shelton State. Before spending a year at Shelton State, however, the former 4-star prospect began his career at the University of Georgia. He played seven games as a true freshman during the 2019-20 season while dealing with injuries and an illness. He only played two games the following year before entering the transfer portal.

Looking at his tape, Walton is almost automatic as a 3-point shooter, sitting near the top of the country in spot-up points per possession. While he is a shooter first, he does have the athleticism and will to attack the basket and finish above the rim.

Walton is a major addition to Nate Oats' program. Aside from the fact that Nimari Burnett is leaving via the transfer portal, his size and position are needed for the Crimson Tide. The only wing of Walton's size last year was Brandon Miller, who is all but certainly heading to the NBA.
