The Alabama Crimson Tide football program kicked off spring practice last Monday as the Kalen DeBoer era officially got underway. While most eyes and attention were drawn to the practice field as new systems, concepts and processes are implemented, there was another beginning last week as well.

The NCAA football calendar ended a dead period last Sunday, allowing recruits to return to campuses and take visits to prospective schools.

New Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer took full advantage of the calendar change by hosting numerous recruits on campus.

The effort has already paid off for the Crimson Tide as Alabama accepted two commitment from the Class of 2025, bringing the class to five total members.

Zymear Smith and Derick Smith committed to Alabama on Saturday and Monday respectively after enjoying their time in Tuscaloosa. Both prospects a 4-stars according to the recruiting services and their additions bumped Alabama to No. 13 in the current cycle.

While it's always exciting to get commitments, the two, and possibly three most recent commitments signal that while things may appear different in Tuscaloosa under the new coaching staff, the recruiting results appear to be the same.

10 days ago DeBoer re-flipped Saraland defensive lineman Antonio Coleman from his Auburn commitment, on Saturday he secured a two-way athlete out of North Carolina and on Monday he pulled in a top-10 player in the state of Alabama.

There were concerns are DeBoer when he was first chosen to replace Saban as he didn't really have preexisting ties and relationships in the south in terms of recruiting. In right at two months on the job he's been able to secure the best Alabama prospect in the 2024 class in Ryan Williams, and has the Crimson Tide sitting just outside the top-10 in recruiting rankings for the next class.
