Considering Poor Shooting in Second Half, Hogs' Loss Simple

Aggies shot well while Razorbacks couldn't hit anything so reasons easy to figure out

In this story:

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman may have things figured out but he's not a miracle worker.

For a team that hasn't shot well since the beginning, blowing a lead on the road to Texas A&M probably shouldn't be shocking.

It's more dejection and frustration now.

The Aggies' 62-56 win Wednesday night was all of that and now the Razorbacks' fans, players and certainly coaches are feeling all of that right now.

"We were in a position, leading for 31 minutes," Musselman said later.

Usually his teams have started to figure things out in mid-January, but not this year. The players haven't been consistent very often and nearly all of them have displayed an inability to accomplish whatever the coaches have figured out.

Especially on offense. In this loss, they fell apart late after somehow hanging on for most of the second half.

"Our shot selection, some of the passes we made in the last five minutes," Musselman said, choosing his words carefully after the game. "A team that definitely has struggled to close games in close games, especially on the road."

It's a team that appears dysfunctional at times and it's not about what Nick Smith has done on the court in two games now.

Against A&M, he came into the game, had a shot blocked, turned the ball over and Musselman sat him down. He was a non-factor.

Something is clearly off-center with this team and don't look at me for answers because there's nothing to put a finger on. Everybody has a different reason.

They are about out of time to come up with any.

"We’ve had a lot of opportunities," Musselman said. "The season is now five games to play."

That starts back at home on Saturday against Florida at 1 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena.

Which could be a good thing, if for no other reason than to get the taste of this one out of their system.

"A game that we were in position to try to close the game out and were unable to," Musselman said.
