Auburn EDGE enters the Transfer Portal

The Auburn Tigers saw a young defender enter the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Transfer Portal Season has hit the Auburn Tigers.

The Auburn football roster is expected to see some change over the next few weeks, especially on the defensive front. This includes the first bit of transfer portal action that Auburn saw on Tuesday.

Auburn EDGE Brenton Williams announced he will enter the transfer portal. The Opelika, Alabama native played in two games as a true freshman this past season. He was originally committed to Coastal Carolina but switched over to the hometown Auburn Tigers once they upped their recruitment of him.

"6’3 255 Edge," Williams posted his announcement on X. "Entering the Portal with 4 years of eligibility left. Thank you Auburn family." He attached a video of his highlights from practice in the tweet.

This move should not come as a huge surprise. He was not expected to make a huge impact in 2024 and with Hugh Freeze and the Auburn coaching staff bringing in talented recruits like Jomanta Waller and Joe Phillips, they were expected to hop Williams on the depth chart sooner rather than later.

Auburn does need help regarding depth on the defensive line and losing Williams does make that potnetially even more of a focal point during the transfer window. It also could strengthen Auburn's sales pitch to potnetial buck linebackers that Auburn choses to pursue over the next few weeks.

Auburn's main pass rusher on the roster, Jalen McLeod, is expected to have a big season but the Tigers will more than likely try to add another edge defender before the 2024 season begins.
