Auburn did something they haven't done a ton this year, which was find a way to win with the bat's quiet.

This was thanks to some outstanding pitching from everyone who came in for the Tigers.

What can we take away from Auburn's game one victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs?

Tip your cap to Tommy!

Tommy Vail had another outstanding outing for the Tigers, going five scoreless innings where he wracked up a season-high ten strikeouts. He kept the walks down and only allowed three hits. This marks back-to-back terrific starts for the Tiger lefty, who is proving to be a true Friday night guy in the SEC. With the Tigers missing Joseph Gonzalez, starting pitching was a concern for this baseball team but, Vail has been a dominant starting pitcher and has helped keep the Tigers in every game he has pitched.

Chris Stanfield is a dang good ball player

Chris Stanfield was outstanding in this ball game, going 2-4 at the plate and scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth inning after some incredible base running. Stanfield tagged up to second on a bunt to the catcher. The ball was thrown away, and he was able to swipe third as well. Bobby Peirce then drove him in with a sac fly to give Auburn a 2-1 lead. I'm not sure the Tigers would have won this ball game if it wasn't for Stanfield's heroics on the bases. The freshman will be outstanding in center field for the Tigers next season once Kason Howell moves on.

Auburn has found their closer

Will Cannon picked up his team high fourth save of the season after coming in and shutting things down in the ninth. His control was touch and go for a little while, but he was able to find the zone and secure the win for the good guys. Having a closer who you can trust is a big part of baseball, and Cannon is separating himself as the reliable piece out of the bullpen. You will definitely see Cannon again in this series, hopefully, to close out another win.
