Updated SEC baseball power rankings after week nine action; is Auburn at the bottom of the SEC?

Another week of SEC baseball showed us who the pretenders and the contenders were.

We are nearing the home stretch of SEC baseball, so the teams are working hard to close the season well to prepare for Hoover and the postseason.

Let's look at our nine SEC baseball power rankings.

14. Ole Miss Rebels

Record: 20-16 (3-12 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 14

Week Nine Recap: Ole Miss's ugly season got uglier after they lost the Egg Bowl of baseball. The Rebels lost two of three against Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs won these games in dominant fashion. With LSU on the docket for this weekend, we might not see Ole Miss in Hoover, Alabama, this year.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: @Arkansas State. Weekend Series: #1 LSU

13. Auburn Tigers

Record: 20-15-1 (5-10 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 13

Week Nine Recap: Auburn lost their series with Alabama after winning the opener on Friday, which always stings a little bit more. The good news for Auburn is that they will potentially have Joseph Gonzalez back near the end of the season to hopefully help win some ball games. If Auburn wants to turn this season around, it needs to start with a series win over Mississippi State on the Plains.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Samford. Weekend Series: Mississippi State

12. Georgia Bulldogs

Record: 19-17 (4-11 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 10

Week Nine Recap: Georgia lost their series on the road at Florida but was able to leave the Sunshine State with one victory. They played good baseball playing the Gators close in all three games, but just couldn't secure a second win to leave with the series. This Bulldog team can hit, so they are always a threat to steal a series against a better opponent.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: @Clemson. Weekend Series:  #5 Arkansas

11. Missouri Tigers

Record: 22-13 (5-10 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 9

Week Nine Recap: Missouri lost another series to Texas A&M this weekend but was able to save the sweep by winning on Sunday. After opening the season with a sweep of Tennessee, we thought Missouri was a contender, but the deeper we get into the season, they are beginning to seem like a pretender.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Missouri State. Weekend Series: Alabamam

10. Tennessee Volunteers

Record: 23-13 (5-10 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 8

Week Nine Recap: Tennessee was swept on the road by Arkansas this week. The preseason top-five team has yet to look very good this season and is getting close to being on the postseason bubble. Their pitching has been solid; the Vols haven't been able to score many runs. Now it seems like Tennessee is a pretender which has to make a lot of people happy.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Tennessee Tech. Weekend Series: #4 Vanderbilt

9. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Record: 22-15 (5-10 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 12

Week Nine Recap: The Bulldogs are hot coming into week ten of college baseball after winning back-to-back SEC series over Alabama and Ole Miss. They will head to the Plains to take on Auburn in what will be a pivotal matchup for the standings. Both of these teams need this series badly, so it should be a fun one.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Southern. Weekend Series: @Auburn

8. Alabama Crimson Tide

Record: 26-11 (6-9 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 11

Week Nine Recap: It was a good week for the Crimson Tide as they were able to win the series over their rival Auburn. The Tide played exceptional situational baseball and just found a way to win after Auburn took the series opener. This Alabama team is a lot better than myself, and many others have given them credit for.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: @UAB. Weekend Series: @Missouri

7. Texas A&M Aggies

Record: 22-14 (7-8 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 7

Week Nine Recap: The Aggies are playing excellent baseball right now, winning three straight series. This week they have a test as they hit the road to play the Kentucky Wildcats. If Texas A&M can win this series on the road, they will be fully back in contender talk after a rough start to conference play.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Prairie View. Weekend Series: @ #13 Kentucky

6. Kentucky Wildcats (13)

Record: 28-7 (10-5 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 6

Week Nine Recap: Kentucky did precisely what it needed to do this week to stay in contender talk. They took a game at LSU and played another one close. This was all I needed to see to confirm this team in Lexington was the real deal. I predict they will win their series over Texas A&M this weekend.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Xavier. Weekend Series: Texas A&M

5. South Carolina Gamecocks (6)

Record: 30-6 (10-4 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 3

Week Nine Recap: South Carolina lost their series on the road against Vandy, which was a surprise as they won game one in dominant fashion. This team is still one of the best in the nation, and they will have another chance to prove this as they host the Florida Gators this weekend. I personally think they will win this series and move up a few spots in the rankings.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Charleston Southern. Weekend Series: #3 Florida

4. Arkansas Razorbacks (5)

Record: 29-7 (11-4 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 5

Week Nine Recap: Arkansas had an excellent week sweeping the Tennessee Volunteers. Razorback pitching was untouchable, and the bats did enough to get three wins. The Hogs head to Georgia this weekend, where I predict they will sweep the Bulldogs. This Arkansas team is a real contender to win a National Championship.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Central Arkansas. Weekend Series: @Georgia

3. Florida Gators (3)

Record: 30-7 (11-4 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 4

Week Nine Recap: Florida won another series this weekend as they took two of three from the Georgia Bulldogs. We already know how good this Gator team is, but they have another opportunity to show us as they prepare to head to South Carolina. Get your popcorn ready for this matchup.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek Tue: FAMU. Weekend Series: @ #6 South Carolina

2. Vanderbilt Commodores (4)

Record: 29-7 (13-2 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 2

Week Nine Recap: Vanderbilt won a big-time series at home in Music City, defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks. What was even more impressive about this series win was that South Carolina won the first game, and Vandy came back to win the series. They will head to Knoxville to play Tennessee in a series I believe they will win.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Indiana State. Weekend Series: @Tennessee

1. LSU Tigers (1)

Record: 29-6 (9-5 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 1

Week Nine Recap: LSU won their series over the Kentucky Wildcats after winning games one and three. The Tigers haven't gotten a ton of sweeps, but they have yet to lose an SEC series, and I don't think they will the rest of the season. I expect the best team in the nation to go on the road and win their series over Ole Miss in dominant fashion.

Week Ten Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Louisiana. Weekend Series: @Ole Miss
