Auburn Briefing: Basketball portal action is heating up

In this story:
While the transfer portal for college football is opening this weekend, the drama is already ongoing when looking at college basketball.
Auburn added Denver Jones to the 2023-2024 roster and they continue to push to add more size to Bruce Pearl's squad.
Auburn basketball has reached out to FSU's Matthew Cleveland
Cleveland was the Seminoles' leading scorer last season, averaging 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.8 steals per game. The six-foot-seven 200-pound guard from Atlanta shot 35% from three a season ago.
It's easy to see how he could fit in on AUburn's roster that desperately needed size and consistency shooting from deep.
Cleveland had an Auburn offer coming out of high school. He was a five-star recruit ranked 26th overall in the class of 2021.
Is Devan Cambridge coming back?
Is a reunion coming?
Devan Cambridge, a former Auburn Tiger and transfer from Arizona State, is considering coming back to play for the Tigers, per Jon Rothstein. "Arizona State transfer Devan Cambridge tells me that he will visit Oregon on Sunday," Rothstein wrote in a tweet. "Also considering Auburn, Texas Tech, and Clemson."
I'm not buying this as likely until I see a little bit more smoke but the idea behind it is fun.
During one season at Arizona State, Cambridge improved his game - averaging a career-best 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds on 50.4% shooting (33.3% from deep).
Put former Oregon State quarterback Chance Nolan on your radar
There are mixed opinions on Chance Nolan as far as what he brings as a quarterback to a roster. The addition of former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to the roster forced him out during the last transfer window and ended up not signing with anyone. He's still a free agent.
We wrote the following on Nolan earlier this year.
Nolan, a junior, is the one player on this list that could move the needle for a larger school. He has fifteen games as a starter under his belt, which is experience that would be welcomed on a lot of teams. He has thrown 270 completed passes over the last two years for over 3,000 yards. With that came 26 touchdowns to 18 interceptions and an average quarterback rating of around 140. He also added 286 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. The caveat here is that bulk of that came the season before last.
Auburn baseball heads to Alabama this weekend
Butch Thompson's Tigers need some positive energy after dropping a series to an average-at-best Texas A&M team. The lack of pitching has them in the bottom tier of SEC teams. Perhaps a series win against their biggest rivals could help change the season.
