Owen Pappoe gets drafted in the Fifth Round by the Arizona Cardinals
Owen Pappoe has been drafted, the former five-star recruit that signed with Auburn in the 2019 recruiting class is now a Cardinal.
The Cardinals are getting a dynamic and versatile inside linebacker with speed and the coverage skills to be a larger nickel back in the NFL. They saw a need at the LB position and see Pappoe as a prospect to take a chance on.
Pappoe is an athletic specimen, he stands at 6'0 and weighs 225 pounds. The speed and power combo that Pappoe has will make him a plug-and-play across the LB room and situationally as a coverage backer in passing downs.
Pappoe had an impressive NFL Combine as he was the fastest LB with a 4.39 official 40-yard dash. Pappoe also had the fastest 10-yard split, fourth-highest vertical and broad jump, and the most bench press reps with 29. Pappoe showed why he lives up to his nickname of "Freak".
Owen showed flashes of potential during his career at Auburn despite dealing with multiple injuries in his time on the plains. Pappoe finished his career with 256 tackles, 15 TFLs, eight sacks, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles. His career-best season was in 2020 where he had 93 tackles, four sacks, and an interception.
Pappoe becomes the first five-star that has been drafted from Auburn since Derrick Brown, who was drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft. Brown went seventh overall to the Carolina Panthers. Pappoe also is the third Auburn LB to be drafted in the past five years, KJ Britt and Deshaun Davis are the others.
