Auburn Briefing: Three players that could have a big second scrimmage

In this story:
The Auburn Tigers answered the biggest question of Fall camp earlier this week when Payton Thorne was named starting quarterback. Now, Auburn can focus on preparing for the season and the season opener against UMass.
Here are three Tigers that could have a big Saturday scrimmage.
Payton Thorne, quarterback
Hugh Freeze said he thought Thorne was pressing in the first scrimmage and hoped that naming him starter would allow him to be able to dial in and operate within the offense. Now being the week one starter, Thorne could have a bigger scrimmage than he did a week ago.
Eugene Asante, linebacker
The Asante hype train is starting to pick up steam. His athleticism is starting to turn into multiple days of good practice per reports and should find him among the starting group at Iinebacker.
Rivaldo Fairweather, tight end
Fairweather seems to be the most consistent offensive weapon on a daily basis. This should turn into production when Thorne needs to have a big scrimmage to stamp his place as the starting quarterback. Multiple sources believe he will be close to "unguardable" this season.
What's today
No media availability is available on Friday. The scrimmage tomorrow will also be closed to media members. Freeze will meet with the media after Saturday's scrimmage.

The five-star end has come onto the scene in camp and really made an impression on the Tigers' coaching staff. Auburn has moved him to defensive end after initially starting him at JACK, but the 6-foot-6, 290-pound freshman has all of the upside in the world on the d-line.

Thorne explained why he named Payton Thorne at his Thursday press conference.
"The reason Payton is getting the nod is just the leadership ability and the understanding of the offense. He's been in some really good battles, and it just seems like he was more efficient in the decision-making to this point — not that the others were terrible by any means.”
