Auburn Briefing: Looking at the receiving targets in Auburn's win against Cal

In this story:
The Auburn passing game was not consistent in the 14-10 win over the Cal Golden Bears Saturday night.
According to PFF, Auburn pass catchers were targeted 16 times.
| Player | Targets | Receptions | Yards |
|---|---|---|---|
Rivaldo Fairweather | 4 | 3 | 39 |
Damari Alston | 2 | 2 | 19 |
Jay Fair | 4 | 2 | 25 |
Ja'Varrius Johnson | 2 | 1 | 7 |
Jarquez Hunter | 2 | 1 | 4 |
Jyaire Shorter | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Omari Kelly | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Note: These numbers are from PFF. I'm not sure why the target to Shane Hooks was a high pass from Payton Thorne that resulted in a pick that was not considered a target.
The Tigers have to include Fairweather, Fair, and Johnson in the passing game. Curious to see what that looks like this week against Samford.

Hugh Freeze was asked about Auburn's quarterback situation at his Monday presser.
“They both seem fine. I don’t know if that’s exactly what I want it to look like. We had no juice, no momentum, so you’re searching for it. We have to figure out that piece of it. We need Payton to player better, too. That last drive, played well. Prior to that, a few of the throws were inaccurate, he left the pocket early once. I’m not beating up on Payton, but we need more consistency there."
Here are our takeaways from Freeze's presser.

In our weekly SEC Power Rankings, Auburn moved up from seven to five. Here's what Auburn Daily's Steve Simpson wrote about Auburn this week.
In a strange game, fitting for the west coast, Auburn escaped Cal with a 14-10 win in Berkley. The story of the game was Auburn's defense repeatedly holding Cal scoreless, despite the Bears starting drives on the Tiger's side of the field. Auburn couldn't generate any consistent offense, but were finally able to put together a 69-yard drive in the fourth quarter that ended with Peyton Thorne's pass to Rivaldo Fairweather for the game-winning touchdown. The Tigers return home this week to host Samford.
Here's the full list of power rankings.
