Derick Hall believes that Dylan Brooks can be a three-down player in the SEC
Auburn's leading EDGE rushers from 2022 are no longer on the roster and will be on NFL rosters soon.
Derick Hall and Eku Leota both showed impressive traits and backed up their production in front of NFL teams in Mobile, Alabama during the Senior Bowl practices this week.
With the hole in the defense that they are leaving behind, Hall believes Dylan Brooks will be the next guy to step up in that position.
"When Eku went down, it was very detrimental that he stepped up and played good football," Hall said. "I feel like as the year went on, he played really good football. He has the perfect opportunity. There's no one else in that room so he's got to step up and play ball."
The biggest knock against projecting Brooks to have a huge breakout year in 2023 is his size. Hall has been on him regarding his weight.
"He definitely needs to get a little bit bigger," Hall said. "I always try to tell him about his weight. You've got to eat. He's definitely a three-down guy in that league. The dude is long, he's rangy, and he's athletic. He can rush, he can drop."
Brooks is listed at 232 pounds on Auburn's most updated roster. For comparisons, Leota is listed at 255, Hall is at 256. Incoming 5-star EDGE Keldric Faulk is listed at 270 and incoming Vanderbilt EDGE Elijah McAllister is listed at 265 pounds on Vanderbilt's roster from last year.
Hall believes Brooks can be a great player in the SEC. He took pride in teaching him the position while their time together on The Plains.
"Just having the opportunity to put him under my wing and try to teach him everything that I learned from Derrick (Brown) and Marlon (Davidson)."
