Auburn Briefing: The depth chart seems to be working its way out

In this story:
We're in this weird window of fall camp ending and the start of season preparations beginning.
As Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers turn their focus to UMass and the rest of their schedule, a lot of the big position battles seem just about decided. Here's where some of the biggest questions entering fall camp currently sit.
Quarterback
Of course, the battle between Payton Thorne, Robby Ashford, and Holden Geriner is not officially decided but it does seem like more and more reps with the ones are going to Thorne.
Still, Ashford could perhaps make a run as practices continue to roll on. Geriner seems like he will continue to get reps with the third group in practice.
Left guard
Tate Johnson was the starter at the onset of fall camp but we have seen Jeremiah Wright command that spot over the past week. Wright has been with the ones and Johnson with the twos.
Linebacker
This is the battle that may be the most up in the air. Austin Keys was consistently the lead guy in the room but is battling through some injury. In the Tuesday viewing window, we saw Eugene Asante and Larry Nixon with the starting defense.
What's happening today
Coach Freeze will speak to the media at 3:00 pm CT this afternoon. Afterward, there will be a media viewing window at 3:50 pm CT.
They said it
Auburn assistant head coach and running backs coach Carnell Williams spoke to the media earlier this week and was asked about Damari Alston. He said the following about the emerging running back.
“I’m so excited for that young man. What a great human being first of all, talk about a guy that’s selfless, always checking on his teammates, and trying to pour into others. He’s had some tough things happen throughout his time here and he still comes in with a smile on his face and works his tail off. Honestly, it shows from the offseason to camp. He’s got the guys’ ear in the locker room. You can count on Damari in the locker room. I’m excited about Damari this year.”
