Auburn football's quarterback room ranked HIGHER than Alabama, Georgia QB rooms

According to this one SEC QB ranking, the Tigers have a better quarterback room than Alabama and Georgia?

Auburn's quarterbacks completed 51.6% of their passes for 2,027 yards (172.7 yards per game) with a TD/INT ratio of 9/12.

Apparently, that's better than what Alabama and Georgia have in their quarterback rooms heading into 2023.

According to Cam Mellor of the College Football Network, the Tigers QB unit ranks No. 11 in the SEC heading into 2023, placing above Alabama and Georgia - who sit at No. 12 and No. 13 in his SEC QB rankings.

Here's what Mellor has to say about Finley and Ashford:

Will TJ Finley open the season as the starter, or will Robby Ashford continue to be the man at Auburn? There are a ton of questions around this program, and they don’t just start at quarterback.

However, this team will end sooner than you’d expect f they don’t figure out the QB position. For Finley, his third year in the program should be his best, even if his career arc would indicate otherwise. With a clean slate in terms of coaching staff and scheme, the big man could rely on his athleticism to give him an advantage over Ashford if he can stay healthy and keep the ball on the right side of the field.

For Ashford, he’ll have to prove he can sustain drives with his arm and not just his legs if he wants to keep or even earn the starting nod at this point.

He struggled with consistency both from a decision-making and an accuracy standpoint in 2022 and relied too heavily upon his legs to garner first downs. The duo for the Tigers may push each other to be better overall, but is their "better" even good enough to crack the top 10 in the SEC at this time?

His argument for placing Auburn over the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs is pretty straightforward - Mellor doesn't have confidence in Jalen Milroe winning and holding onto a starting spot, throwing freshman Ty Simpson into the fire. Carson Beck, a former five-star, couldn't unseat Stetson Bennett for two seasons, so how high should the expectations really be for him in 2023?

This doesn't explain the fact that on paper, both Alabama and Georgia have significantly more talented rooms from a recruiting standpoint, and it can be easily argued that the systems put in place for any inexperienced QB at both schools would allow signal-callers to perform at a game manager level... at the bare minimum.

There's some excitement and potential in Auburn's room, but it may not be safe to say it's better than what Bama or Georgia has on roster.

Just because it's an unknown commodity doesn't mean it's a poor commodity.
