REPORT: Robby Ashford has entered the transfer portal

Robby Ashford has entered the transfer portal according to Nubyjas Wilborn.

Per Wilborn's post on X, Ashford will enter the portal and will have two years left of eligibility. Auburn Daily was able to confirm the report through another source.

Auburn's quarterback room hasn't seen much movement this offseason until now but with true freshman Walker White coming in, the Tigers more than likely wanted to keep their quarterback scholarship number at four. With Ashford leaving, it will look to stay that way unless Auburn makes an unforeseen move via the transfer portal.

Ashford was in a battle for the starting quarterback job but lost it to Payton Thorne entering this season. He played more than a non-starting quarterback would in most situations due to the package that was made for him that featured his ability to run.

This offseason, it seemed like Holden Geriner was expected to be the number two quarterback in the room with Hank Brown and White also competing this spring.

Ashford's timing of entering the portal has elements to it. Since he already used his first transfer when he left Oregon to come to Auburn, he would need to wait until he graduated to be able to play anywhere without sitting out a season. He also could transfer down a level and play right away then grad transfer the following season. He's expected to graduate this summer. He could sit out and finish and graduate at Auburn before transferring as well.
