Auburn QB Robby Ashford responds to Payton Thorne commitment on Twitter

The Auburn Tigers just landed what could be their starting quarterback for the 2023 season.

The Tigers were in search of a QB since Freeze's arrival, and after some patience in the portal, Auburn has found him.

Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne committed to Auburn on Friday. He led the charge for the Spartans for the past two years, completing 60.4% of his passes for 3,232 yards and 27 touchdowns. He has 49 total passing touchdowns to 24 interceptions over the course of 29 games at Sparty.

Current Auburn quarterback Robby Ashford took to Twitter to respond to the commitment of Thorne, who will be battling with Ashford and Holden Geriner for the starting job this fall.

"Let’s work. Iron sharpens iron!! War Eagle," Ashford said in the tweet.

During the 2022 season, Ashford threw for 1,673 yards and seven touchdowns while also adding 710 yards and seven scores on the ground.

Ashford has vocalized his confidence in both himself and his team on social media this offseason.
