Former Auburn star signs massive NFL extension

This former Auburn Tiger just got paid.

It's that time of year in the NFL when we see players sign extensions ahead of the next season, and a former Auburn Tiger just inked a massive deal.

The Carolina Panthers drafted former Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown, who has been with the team ever since. Adam Schefter reported that Brown inked a massive deal with the Panthers to keep him in Charlotte for the next four years. The contract is worth 96 million dollars, with 63 million of it guaranteed.

Last season for the Panthers, Brown had 103 tackles, which was a historic number, as it was the most tackles by a defensive lineman in NFL history. Brown is arguably one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, and he will look to prove that this season for a Panthers team in the middle of a rebuild.

During Brown's time in Charlotte, the Panthers haven't been all that competitive, and that was the case last season. Clearly, the team management believes that Brown needs to be part of the future for this team to get back to competing for Super Bowls like it was when Cam Newton was there.

Some thought Brown might be traded to a contender, but the former Auburn star will stay with the team that selected him in the draft, hoping to make them a contender.

Bryce Young will look to take a sophomore jump that should help the Panthers win a few more games this season.

Brown was a Pro Bowl selection last season for the first time in his career, and he will look to repeat this next season.
