SEC-Offered ATH Talks Auburn Visit, Interest in Tigers

In this story:
The SEC is, by far, one of the most difficult conferences to recruit in, but Alex Golesh and the Auburn Tigers are working to make their mark on recruits in this cycle. One highly sought-after recruit, Jamari Nicks, has already garnered offers from SEC programs, and he just took a visit to Auburn.
Nicks is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete from Winterboro High School in Alpine, Ala., who is currently rated as a three-star prospect by On3. He is currently ranked as the 94th-best wide receiver in the 2028 class as well as the 14th-best player in the state of Alabama, earning him offers from SEC programs like Arkansas and Tennessee.
Auburn Tigers on SI caught up with Nicks after his Thursday visit to discuss his thoughts on the program and his interest in the Tigers.
“Great visit,” he said. “Talked to my position coaches and seen the development of a good in-state program… Auburn is high on the board for me, I will be back soon.”
To Nicks, many things stood out about the Tigers’ program, though one thing in particular piqued his interest: head coach Alex Golesh’s new slogan.
“I liked how they have this one slogan up everywhere as a reminder to ‘be who you say you are,’” he said. “Sets a standard to compete and live by every day. What stands out to me is the speed of the practice and their desire to make each other succeed.”
Nicks also had the opportunity to speak to a few of Auburn’s coaches, though due to the multifaceted nature of his playing ability, he had an interesting group to speak to.
“I got to talk to Coach Larry Porter and his running back assistant coaches and Coach Kodi Burns,” he said. “They told me that they love me down here and to keep progressing.”
Though Nicks has earned just three stars at the moment, he has been a force to be reckoned with throughout his career at Winterboro. Last season alone, Nicks managed to accumulate over 1,500 all-purpose yards as well as more than 20 touchdowns.
“I’m a playmaker,” he said. “Give me an inch and I’m liable to take it all the way every time. I’m also a package deal, you are getting a great receiver and a great running back when you recruit me.”
Though Auburn is quite deep at the running back position for the foreseeable future, Nicks could prove to be a dynamic playmaker for the program, similar to Anthony Schwartz, if the Tigers are able to wrangle him from the jaws of other hungry SEC programs.
