Baylor Run-Ruled by Oklahoma State 11-1, Eliminated From Big 12 Tournament

Baylor's season is now over after a disappointing blowout loss.

The Baylor Bears' season has come to a disappointing end, as they have been eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament following a blowout loss at the hands of Oklahoma State. Now, the Bears will head back to Waco to begin their offseason and begin working towards the 2023 season.

While the Bears' starter was able to slow down the TCU offense until the sixth inning on Wednesday, that would not be the case on Thursday as Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead.

Baylor would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third on an Alex Gonzales RBI groundout, but that would be the only offense the Bears could muster before things fell apart for the pitching staff.

Taking a 1-1 game into the bottom of the third, the Bears hoped to get back on offense quickly, but that would not be the case, as Oklahoma State ace Justin Campbell was able to shut down the Baylor lineup with ease, throwing seven innings of one-run baseball while striking out 10.

Offensively for Oklahoma State, they broke this game open in the third and never looked back.

The Cowboys would put three runs on the board in the third inning on a Griffin Doersching moonshot three-run home run that would land in the second deck, giving them a 4-1 lead.

From there, it was all Cowboys as the Oklahoma State offense was all over the Baylor pitching staff. They would plate seven unanswered runs, capped off by a two-run single from Jake Thompson in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 11-1 run game and secure a run-rule victory for the Cowboys to eliminate Baylor.

What's next for Baylor?

With their elimination from the Big 12 Tournament, the Bears officially end their 2022 season with a losing record at 26-28. An appearance in the NCAA Tournament is all but out of the cards at this point, as the Bears will now turn their attention to the offseason and improving ahead of the start of the 2023 season.
