Lake Highlands (TX) junior Tre Johnson made his official visit to Baylor this weekend, with the Bears hoping to add to a 2024 class that is, while it only has two players committed, one of the country's best.

By all accounts, Johnson is one of the top players in America, with some outlets naming him the number one prospect in the nation in the 2024 class.

Johnson is a 6'5" guard who is slim at about 180 pounds but obviously with plenty of room to go as he is only a junior in high school. Johnson averaged over 23 points and five rebounds a game as a sophomore and only impressed more in the summer.

Playing for Team Griffin based out of Oklahoma, Johnson lit up Atlanta's prestigious Peach Jam tournament when he went off for 20 points against one of the top 2023 recruits in the nation in guard D.J. Wagner. His game even caught the attention of LeBron James, who was caught stunned that Johnson was only a rising junior.

Johnson has a smooth game, one that is developed far beyond his years. He has a good jumper and an excellent mid-range game, something that is often lost with today's guards. He knows how to get to his spot on the floor better than most seniors of his caliber, let alone sophomores. With that, he has an innate ability to see the mismatch and exploit it, rather than try to overpower a defense with his athleticism or shoot over it.

With his ability to fill it up from just about anywhere, he is akin to a player like Devin Booker, but his effortless way to get where he needs to be on the court is similar to Jayson Tatum, although Tatum is a lot bigger. From a college basketball standpoint, I see him as what Evan Turner was at Ohio State. Other than just being a National Player of the Year, Turner was a good-sized mid-range scoring guard who always needed work on his ball-handling.

Scott Drew has already pried two top-tier recruits for this class in Jason Asemota and Rob Wright, both from out of state. Now, he has the chance to land another blue chip from basically his own backyard.

Johnson's addition would bolster an already great 2024 class and would build on the momentum the Bears have made with their stellar 2023 class.

Johnson also has interest from Texas, Arkansas, Auburn, and Duke.
