Chiefs Cut Baylor Ex Mark Vital

Former Bears basketball star recently transitioned to football tight end with hopes of making NFL roster

Former Baylor Bears basketball forward Mark Vital, who recently transitioned from hoops player to football tight end, was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.

The move was first reported on Twitter by Matt Derrick, a beat reporter for ChiefsDigest.com.

Vital was quick to respond to the corresponding move on social media.

"It wasn't skill, it was space," Vital tweeted on Thursday afternoon. "It will happen with Gods plan. Can't wait to see the my potential and tell my story. Other then that thank you to my first football family @Chiefs!! Great wisdom and teachers."

A staff report on CBS also verified that Vital was waived by the Chiefs, according to Charles Goldman of USA Today.

"Vital was dropped from Kansas City's roster after the team signed defensive end Carlos Dunlap in a corresponding move Thursday," the report states. "The former basketball standout for Baylor transitioned to football after his college career and showed potential during the Chief's OTAs and minicamp this offseason; however, he will have to wait to pass through waivers in hopes of making his NFL debut elsewhere this coming season."

Before transitioning to football, the 6'5, 250-pound Vital was a powerful force to be reckoned with on the hardwood as a member of the 2021 National Champion Baylor Bears basketball team under the helm of coach Scott Drew.

He was a member of the Chiefs practice squad in 2021, as Vital was able to successfully make an impact at the NFL level almost immediately before being cut on Thursday.
