Coming off their winningest season in program history, the #10 Baylor Bears open their season at home against the Albany Great Danes. Saturday's matchup marks the first time in program history the Great Danes will square off against an FBS top 10 team.

The Bears return five starters on offense and will lean on sophomore quarterback Blake Shapen, who won the job in spring camp, beating out Gerry Bohanon, who is now the starter at USF. Shapen started twice in 2021 when Bohanon was out injured, going 2-0 and throwing for five touchdowns and no picks, leading Baylor to the Big 12 championship.

The Great Danes come off a 2-9 season in 2021 where they lost their first eight games of the season. Albany struggled to run the ball, only rushing for 996 yards the entire season last year. Today, they will go up against a Bears front that returns four starters from a unit that was among the best in the Big 12.

This is the first matchup between the Bears and the Great Danes.
