The Baylor Bears, fresh off a win in regionals, will start play in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships on Friday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Baylor is making its sixth appearance at nationals in history, and its fifth in the last six seasons.

The Bears are hoping to replicate what they did in 2015. Then, Baylor won a regional and finished second in the NCAA Tournament.

The Bears won the Stillwater Regional, on Oklahoma State’s home course, by 14 shots last week.

Baylor is one four Big 12 teams in the event, along with Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU.

Baylor finished in 14th place in last year’s national tournament, which was also held at Grayhawk.

The Bears are coming off a brilliant three days at Stillwater. Baylor’s three-round total of 865 was the Bears’ second-best 54-hole score ever. Baylor’s final round of 288 tied for their ninth-best single round in program history. The Bears’ 14-shot margin was their biggest in a NCAA postseason event.

The Bears had three players finish in a tie for second individually — Gurleen Kaur (75-67-72—214), Britta Snyder (69-74-71—214) and Rosie Belsham (72-71-71—214) all finished in that tie. Snyder’s finish was a career-best and Kaur’s finish was a career-best in NCAA play.

Addie Baggarly (76-73-74—223) and Hannah Karg (80-75-77—232) rounded out Baylor’s play in the regional.

The tournament begins Friday with 54 holes of stroke play Friday through Sunday, after which the top 15 teams out of the 24 in the field and nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance to the next stage.

On Monday, they will play a final 18 holes of stroke play and the top eight teams advance to match play. The 72-hole champion will also be crowned that day.

The team national champion is crowned through match-play format with teams seeded 1-8 based on stroke play results. The quarterfinals and semifinals take place Tuesday, while the championship match is scheduled for Wednesday.
