A BYU Win Over Oklahoma State Would Secure the 5-Seed in the Big 12 Tournament

BYU's seeding in the conference tournament is on the line against Oklahoma State

On Saturday night, BYU hosts Oklahoma State for the last game of the regular season. With a win, BYU would secure the 5-seed in the Big 12 conference tournament. To be the 5-seed, BYU needed Kansas to lose to Houston - and they did. No. 1 Houston beat no. 14 Kansas convincingly on Senior night.

There is still a scenario where BYU could finish tied for fourth in the conference standings if Texas Tech loses to Baylor. Regardless, BYU's ceiling is the 5-seed in the conference tournament per the tiebreaker rules.

With a loss to Oklahoma State, BYU would either be the 6-seed or the 7-seed depending on the outcome of the TCU-UCF game. With a TCU win over UCF, BYU would be the 7-seed. If TCU beats UCF, BYU would be the 6-seed. As of this writing, UCF leads TCU 38-37.

Update: UCF beat TCU 79-77. BYU would be the 6-seed in the Big 12 tournament even with a loss to Oklahoma State.

If BYU is a 5-seed in the Big 12 tournament, they would play the winner of UCF-Oklahoma State in the second round of the tournament. If BYU is a 6-seed in the Big 12 tournament, they would play the winner of Cincinnati-West Virginia in the second round of the tournament.

Saturday's game against Oklahoma State is also critical for NCAA tournament seeding. On Saturday morning, Joe Lunardi had BYU as a the highest 5-seed. With a win over Oklahoma State and a win or two in the Big 12 tournament, BYU could be a 4-seed in the NCAA tournament.
