BYU Point Guard Dallin Hall Names His Top Eight Schools

On Monday morning, multiple reports indicated that BYU point guard transfer Dallin Hall is down to eight schools: Creighton, Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida, Washington, Utah, Utah State, and BYU. Mitch Harper of KSL Sports was the first to report the news.

If BYU hopes to retain Dallin Hall, they will need to name a replacement for Mark Pope quickly. Hall was arguably the most important player on BYU's team last year.

Hall, who has played two years for BYU, averaged 9.0 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game last season. Hall's impact at BYU extended well beyond the box score. BYU's entire offense ran through Hall, and he was the primary ball handler for a team that lacked true ball handlers. Hall was very good at breaking down the defense and finding open shooters on the perimeter. When Hall was not on the floor, BYU struggled to get into an offensive rhythm.

Hall was part of a young core at BYU that had a very bright future ahead of them. Losing Hall would be a major blow to BYU's future plans. Whoever replaces Mark Pope will immediately get to work in trying to retain players like Dallin Hall, Richie Saunders, and even Aly Khalifa. There are a handful of other players on the roster that will need to be retained by the new coach, even if they haven't entered the transfer portal.

Hall entered the portal just hours after former BYU head coach Mark Pope left for Kentucky. It's notable that Kentucky is not in consideration for Hall. Either Hall didn't want to follow Pope or Kentucky didn't have a spot for Dallin Hall.
