Just hours after Mark Pope was announced as Kentucky's new head coach, BYU's roster started to experience attrition. BYU starting point guard Dallin Hall has entered the transfer portal according to Rivals. Hall, who has played two years for BYU, averaged 9.0 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game last season.

Hall's impact at BYU extended well beyond the box score. BYU's entire offense ran through Hall, and he was the primary ball handler for a team that lacked true ball handlers. Hall was very good at breaking down the defense and finding open shooters on the perimeter. When Hall was not on the floor, BYU struggled to get into an offensive rhythm.

Hall was part of a young core at BYU that had a very bright future ahead of them. Losing Hall is a major blow to BYU's future plans. Given the timing, it's possible Hall could follow Pope to Kentucky.

Just because Hall is in the portal, it doesn't mean he can't return to BYU. The new head coach can try to recruit Hall back to Provo. However, BYU doesn't have a coach in place. It's for this exact reason that we said BYU needs to move quickly to repace Mark Pope. Without a coach in place, there's no one in the chair to keep the roster together.

Hall's entrance in the portal is not surprising. Until a coach is in place, every player on the roster is at risk of leaving the program. Stay tuned for more transfer portal updates in the coming days.
