BYU Offensive Lineman Blake Freeland Sets New Vertical Jump Record at NFL Combine

Freeland is putting together an all-time NFL Combine performance

Former BYU offensive lineman Blake Freeland is turning heads at the NFL Combine. Freeland, who started for BYU at tackle from 2019-2022, recorded a 37" vertical on Sunday. That is the highest mark by an offensive lineman since the NFL started tracking combine data in 2003. It surpassed the previous record of 36.5" set by Tristan Wirfs in 2020. Wirfs went on to be drafted in the first round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022.

Freeland has also excelled in other areas like the 40 yard dash. Freeland ran a 4.96 (still unofficial) which currently ranks first among offensive lineman. Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones ranks second with a time of 4.98.

In the broad jump, Freeland ranked first with a broad jump of 10'0". That was a full five inches better than the next best jump of 9'7", recorded by former Northwestern offensive lineman Peter Skoronski.

In the 10-yard split, Freeland ranked first with a time of 1.68. Utah's Braeden Daniels ranked second with a time of 1.71.

For those keeping track, that's four OL events that have been completed thus far - Freeland ranks first in every event. Freeland is not only a superb athlete, he has great size as well. He was measured at 6'7 302 pounds on Sunday. Given his combine performance, Freeland has the potential to rise up draft boards in the next few weeks.

Freeland played quarterback and tight end in high school before he converted to be an offensive tackle at BYU. At BYU, Freeland was one of the most consistent offensive tackles in the country. He played nearly 2,700 snaps at offensive tackle and he allowed only two sacks.
