Scenario #1: BYU Could Move into the Upper Tier with a Win Over TCU
BYU is 1-1 in conference play with TCU up next. The Horned Frogs are coming off consecutive losses and will be starting backup quarterback Josh Hoover after starter Chandler Morris suffered an injury against Iowa State. Despite the injury situation at quarterback, TCU is favored in this game.
BYU is stuck in the middle of the logjam in the middle of the standings. If BYU pulls off the upset at TCU, the Cougars would move into the upper tier of the conference standings.
With a loss, BYU would get lost in the shuffle of the teams in the bottom half of the conference.
Scenario #2: West Virginia Could Join Oklahoma at the Top
Oklahoma and West Virginia are the only teams remaining that are undefeated in conference play. With a win at Houston, West Virginia could join Oklahoma at the top of the standings with a 3-0 record. If the Mountaineers lose, they would join the large group of teams in the middle of the standings.
Scenario #3: Iowa State Creates Separation or Cincinnati Joins the Conversation
Cincinnati is looking for its first conference win against Iowa State. The Bearcats have been competitive in league games this year, but they haven't been able to get over the hump. If Iowa State wins, it will create some separation from the logjam in the standings. If Cincinnati wins, it will rejoin the conversation in the standings.
Scenario #4: A Proving Ground for Kansas and Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State had the most surprising win of the week against Kansas State last week. If The Pokes can pull out a win against Kansas, they will prove that last week was not a fluke. If Kansas wins, it will prove that they belong in the conversation of the best teams in the conference.
Scenario #5: An Opportunity to Re-Emerge for Kansas State and Texas Tech
Both Kansas State and Texas Tech were viewed as candidates to win the conference in the preseason. That changed when Texas Tech stumbled out of the gate and Kansas State dropped a game against Oklahoma State. Both teams are looking for an opportunity to re-emerge as championship contenders. The winner of this game could do just that.
