On Tuesday, BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill announced that BYU is expected to welcome cornerback Kamden Garret back to the starting lineup.

"That one hurt too," Hill said when asked about Garrett's absence against TCU. "Losing Kam Garrett, who's playing as good as any corner in the conference, that hurt. He practiced very well today and we expect him to play on Saturday. He looked great today."

In five games this season, Garrett has been one of the best defensive backs for the Cougars. He has allowed receptions on 63% of his targets, second only to Jakob Robinson. Garrett has tallied 14 total tackles, 3 pass breakups, and 1 interception. He will be a valuable asset for a BYU defense that allowed a season high 447 yards passing last week.

Hill also provided an injury update on safety Talan Alfrey. Afrey hasn't played this season since he suffered an injury during Fall camp. "Talan's going to be back soon," Hill said. "I don't think it will be this week, we're hoping for Texas. He'll be back soon."

The safety position has been decimated by injuries this season. BYU lost original starter Micah Harper to a knee injury during Fall camp. Alfrey, the projected backup to Micah Harper, hasn't played this season. Tanner Wall emerged as a starter before suffering a season-ending injury that required surgery. Without Wall and Alfrey, BYU will look for another player to start alongside Ethan Slade.
