BYU is the Only Team Standing Between Oklahoma State and the Big 12 Championship Game

On Friday night, the Texas Longhorns took care of business in a dominant 57-7 win over Texas Tech. With the win, the Longhorns secured their spot in the Big 12 championship game next weekend. Texas will face either Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, or Kansas State in the championship game. Between those three teams, only Oklahoma State controls their destiny. If the Cowboys beat BYU on Saturday, they would own the tiebreaker over Kansas State and Oklahoma and would therefore face Texas in the Big 12 championship.
The Cougars have a lot to play for as well - they are just one win away from reaching bowl eligibility. BYU has been one win away from bowl eligibility for the last month. The Cougars are eager to win one more game and play in a bowl game for the first time as a Big 12 school. They also have a chance to play spoiler which would be the cherry on top of an upset win.
If BYU beats Oklahoma State, Oklahoma will play Texas in the Big 12 championship.
BYU also has the opportunity to win its first conference road game as a member of the Big 12. Road wins have been hard to come by for BYU this season. The Cougars are 1-4 on the road and 0-4 in conference play. Turnovers have been a major problem for the Cougars in road games - not just turnovers, but catastrophic turnovers. BYU has allowed five non-offensive touchdowns in five road games this season. If BYU wants to pull off the upset and shake up the Big 12, the Cougars will have to take care of the football in Stillwater.
