BYU Wide Receivers Coach Fesi Sitake Believes This is His Deepest Room Ever

BYU wide receivers coach Fesi Sitake, who has been with the program since 2018, believes that the 2024 wide receiver room will be his deepest ever. "In terms of depth, I feel it's the best I've ever had," Sitake said in an interview with the media on Tuesday. "In terms of just the quality of depth and the number of guys I can roll through. Especially as you factor in the incoming freshman that we're about to get that have not joined us. Obviously, Dominique McKenzie is an early enrollee from coming off his mission. But you think about Tei Nacu and Cody Hagen, for example. To add those to the six guys that are already experienced. There's a lot of depth there...we'll see how some of those guys grow and flourish in this offense, but I'm excited for the group."

Coach Sitake hasn't been shy about naming his top six wide receivers that will be in the rotation:

1. Chase Roberts - JR

The 6'4 junior wide receiver has racked up 930 yards and 8 touchdowns in his career. Injuries have limited some of his production during his time in Provo. When he's been healthy, however, he's been very good for BYU.

2. Darius Lassiter - SR

Darius Lassiter emerged as Kedon Slovis' go-to wide receiver by late October before an injury sidelined him for most of November. Lassiter is probably the best wide receiver on the roster in terms of making contested catches. He received a waiver for one final year of eligibility.

3. Kody Epps - JR

When healthy, Kody Epps has been dynamic for BYU. Staying healthy, however, has been a challenge for Epps. He's racked up 718 receiving yards in his last 16 games played.

4. Keelan Marion - JR

Keelan Marion transferred from UConn to BYU after Spring camps last year. His role within the offense slowly grew as the season progressed.

5. Parker Kingston - SO

Sophomore Parker Kingston is one of the fastest players on the roster. A former quarterback in high school, Kingston is still developing his skillset as a wide receiver. He also made an impact as a punt returner last year.

6. Jojo Phillips - FR

Jojo Phillips has been one of the standouts of Spring camp. The 6'5 redshirt freshman has sky-high potential. He is a candidate to take on a much larger role in 2024. He had one catch in 2023, a touchdown catch against Iowa State.

Other scholarship wide receivers on the roster will be true freshmen Cody Hagen, Dominique Mckenzie, and Tei Nacua. Hagen and McKenzie will immediately be two of the fastest players on the roster. They might need a year to shake off the mission rust, but they will be the next wide receivers in line when guys like Darius Lassiter, Kody Epps, and Chase Roberts graduate.

Tei Nacua is the youngest Nacua brother. Tei's older brother Puka Nacua was a star at BYU before his record-breaking season with the LA Rams in 2023. He has similar potential to his older brothers, but he might need a year or two to develop before he can crack the rotation.

Both the present and the future look bright for the BYU wide receivers.
Whether it's Jake Retzlaff or Gerry Bohanon under center, they will have a veteran group of wide receivers to throw to. Between Phillips, Hagen, McKenzie, and Nacua, the next era of BYU wide receivers is also beginning to form.
