BYU Commit Jonathan Kabeya Scores on Pick-Six

Last weekend, BYU commit Jonathan Kabeya recorded a pick-six against Keller High School. Kabeya diagnosed the play, jumped in front of the route, and took it back for the score.

Kabeya, who is listed at 5'10, is the type of defensive back that BYU struggled to consistently land before the Big 12 era. He's fast, he's quick, and he's instinctive. He has the potential to see the field early in his BYU career.
Kabeya committed to BYU over the Summer. He picked the Cougars over competing offers from Arizona State, Indiana, Texas Tech, Tulane, Liberty, Utah State, and Texas State.
Kabeya is part of a 2024 defensive recruiting classes that is slowing turning into a great class. The new defensive staff has prioritized recruiting since they stepped on campus, and their efforts are starting to pay off. A few weeks ago, BYU received a commitment from four-star 2024 defensive end Devoux Tuataga. Tuataga was the seventh defender to commit to BYU in the 2024 class.
Of the seven committed players to BYU, six of them (86%) committed to BYU over competing offers from other Power Five schools. All seven of them committed to BYU over competing offers from FBS schools. For those that have followed recruiting closely over the last several years, especially on the defensive side of the ball, that immense progress in just ten months on the job.
BYU still has work to do for the 2024 recruiting class. Some of their top targets are still on the board. BYU's loss to TCU made one thing very clear: the Cougars need more talent to compete week in and week out in the Big 12. That starts with high school recruiting. Having players like Kabeya in the fold is a great step in the right direction.
