BYU Recruiting Targets After the Early Signing Period

A few of BYU's top targets are still on the board after the early signing period

On Wednesday, BYU signed 27 players as part of the early signing period. Of the 27 signees, only of one of them was a transfer: Weber State linebacker transfer Jack Kelly. The rest of the signees signed with BYU from the high school and JUCO ranks. A few of BYU's top high school targets are still on the board.

BYU will continue to recruit a transfer portal. Aaron Roderick said publicly that the Cougars will bring in one veteran quarterback from the portal. BYU is also in need of a few more players along the offensive line and the depth at running back is thin - those needs will be addressed in the transfer portal. In terms of who BYU is targeting at those positions, the names can change every day as new players enter the transfer portal. Today, we'll narrow our focus to just the high school ranks.

1. Faletau Satuala - ATH

Four-star athelte Faletau Satuala is one of the best recruits in the state this year. The Bountiful star could play safety or linebacker at the next level. He also has the talent to play some wide receiver or tight end. Satuala has picked up a lot of offers during his recruitment, but his recruitment has turned into a class BYU-Utah battle.

Satuala will play in the Army All-American Bowl on January 6th. He will announce his college decision on the broadcast. Satuala is one of those rare talents that could play right away as a true freshman.

2. Naki Tuakoi - Edge

Speaking of four-star defenders, Bay Area standout Naki Tuakoi did not announce his college decision during the early signing period. Tuakoi is a four-star edge prospect that backed off his commitment to Stanford back in October. BYU hosted Tuakoi for an official visit a few weeks ago and the Cougars pushed hard to land his signature. Tuakoi

3. Flip Target

BYU worked to flip a few players that were committed to other schools during the early signing period. They pulled off the flip of former Texas Tech DL commit Danny Saili. Saili flipped his commitment to BYU after taking an official visit. He signed with the Cougars on Wednesday.

BYU tried to flip Oklahoma State commit Nuku Mafi. The Cougars came close but Mafi ended up signing with the Cowboys.

One of BYU's flip targets, who is committed to a P4 school, declined to sign during the early signing period. That means BYU still has a chance to pull off the flip over the next six weeks.
