Four BYU Recruits to Watch Ahead of National Signing Day

National signing day is just two days away and BYU is still putting the finishing touches on the 2024 class

National signing day is just two days away and BYU is still putting the finishing touches on the 2024 class. Back in December, BYU signed 27 players as part of the early signing period. Of the 27 signees, only of one of them was a transfer: Weber State linebacker transfer Jack Kelly. The rest of the signees signed with BYU from the high school and JUCO ranks. A few of BYU's priority high school targets are still on the board. Here are four BYU targets to watch ahead of national signing day.

1. Naki Tuakoi - Edge

Bay Area standout Naki Tuakoi did not announce his college decision during the early signing period, but he's still a priority for BYU.. Tuakoi is a four-star edge prospect that backed off his commitment to Stanford back in October. BYU hosted Tuakoi for an official visit before the early signing window and the Cougars pushed hard to land his signature.

During Tuakoi's recruitment, he has picked up competing offers from Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, Utah, Michigan State, Maryland, Arizona, and Arizona State among others.

2. Sefo Akuila - Athlete

BYU worked to flip a few players that were committed to other schools during the early signing period. They pulled off the flip of former Texas Tech DL commit Danny Saili. Saili flipped his commitment to BYU after taking an official visit.

BYU also tried to flip Oklahoma State commit Nuku Mafi. The Cougars came close but Mafi ended up signing with the Cowboys.

The third player that BYU tried to flip was Arizona commit Sefo Akuila. The Cougars hosted Akuila on an official visit. The visit made some level of impact on his college decision - he declined to sign during the early signing period even before Jedd Fisch left for Washington. Fisch's departure can only help BYU's chances of pulling off the flip.

Akuila is the high school teammate of Naki Tuakoi. Akuila played both quarterback and linebacker in high school. He already has a college-ready frame at 6'3 and 230 pounds. He could play a variety of positions at the next level.

3. Dylan Dunn - Quarterback

Last week, BYU extended a late offer to quarterback and Kansas native Dylan Dunn. Dunn, who is listed at 6'4, is coming off a record-setting senior season. He threw for 3,777 yards, a school record. He tallied 47 touchdowns to 5 interceptions while completing 74% of his passes.

BYU signed multiple quarterbacks during the early signing window. While it wasn't specified in Dunn's announcement, given the timing of this offer and BYU's current scholarship situation, it's highly likely that this offer is a PWO offer. Dunn has reported offers from Oklahoma State and Kansas State that are likely PWO opportunities as well. Those offers are not reported as scholarship offers on recruiting services like 247Sports. However, that could always change. The more teams that enter the picture, the more likely it is that a school could change their offer from PWO to scholarship.

Like they do every February, BYU is recruiting a variety of PWO targets. Of all the PWO names to watch, however, keep an eye on Dylan Dunn. Quarterback depth is critically important, so even PWO quarterback spots are worth monitoring. If he doesn't sign with a school on Wednesday, BYU could have the potential to bring in a really talented player without committing a scholarship upfront.

In his career, he threw for 9,148 total yards which ranks second in Kansas high school football history. He led the state of Kansas in passing for three consecutive years and he tallied 98 total touchdowns.

Dunn is able to make throws at all levels of the field and he can make plays with his legs. His long frame allows him to make difficult throws look quite effortless. You can check out his senior film below.

4. Lance Reynolds - Athlete

Quarterback Lance Reynolds is the son of former standout BYU offensive lineman Lance Reynolds. Reynolds was offered by BYU clear back in March of 2023. Unfortunately, Reynolds suffered a torn ACL that limited his senior season.

Reynolds is listed as an athlete on 247Sports. BYU already has one quarterback committed that will play right away in Noah Lugo. They have another quarterback that will play after his mission in Enoch Watson. There are very limited scholarships at quarterback. Should he commit to BYU, he could end up playing quarterback or another position like safety or even wide receiver.

If his scholarship offer is still committable and he picks the Cougars, he will be announced by the program on signing day.
