One Main Concern for the Bearcats Going into Friday's Game Against the Bulls

The Cincinnati Bearcats are a far more talented team than USF, but they must address one key area.

The Cincinnati Bearcats remain undefeated on the season and head into a Friday night matchup with South Florida.

The Bulls are just 2-7 this season. One concern remains following the Bearcats' defensive performance against Tulsa.

South Florida has been abysmal defensively all season. There are just two games in which they held opponents to less than 20 points (coincidently their only two wins) and they both have one offensive characteristic in common. They ran the ball, a lot.

Tulsa stayed in the game for two reason against the Bearcats: miscues in the offensive game plan for Cincinnati and the Golden HUrricane’s ability to run the ball. There remains a small possibility that South Florida gives Cincinnati fits with the running game.

In the Bulls win over Florida A&M they amassed 46 rushing attempts to the tune of 241 yards. In their victory over Temple, South Florida ran the ball 73 times for 421 yards. You’re probably thinking: “Yeah, but the Bearcats are ridiculously better than those two schools,” and you’d be right. The thing that gives me pause is South Florida’s offensive line.

In their most recent game against Houston, South Florida started four seniors. Experience counts for quite a lot when you’re looking to upset a more superior foe, something USF almost did to Houston. Going back to my thoughts on Tulsa’s ability to isolate MyJai Sanders, these seniors will be aware of this and ready.

The Bearcats front seven will need to play disciplined football on Friday night and not let the Bulls' ground game get going. If Cincinnati can stop the run, they should roll in South Florida.
