The ACC Football Roadtrip, a program of the ACC Network came to Clemson last week just as the Tigers were getting ready to start back at practice. Eric Mac Clain, the former Clemson offensive lineman, sat down, poolside with their feet in the water, with running back Will Shipley to get a read on how it felt to be back and early indications on what his role will become in 2023.

When asked even about the feeling of being back at their first day of practice Shipley couldn't hide his enthusiasm, "Yeah, just heaven itself. Heaven on Earth right? It's exactly what a guy like me and a team like ours is looking forward to. First day putting on the pads, getting after it, very competitive. Offense and defense brought it, both of us, so you just got to bring it to the table every single day, and like I said it was a great day, competitive, and couldn't ask for anything else."

Barrett Carter and the mutual respect held between the two while competing against each other every day came up. The Junior running back answered, "I'm so blessed. Our team is so blessed to have that but me in particular with Barrett, Jeremiah [Trotter Jr.] and you know those guys on the defense because I know that I got to bring my all every single day, and if I don't then I'm gonna get exposed by them. So to be out there and be able to go back and forth and push one another but then when we get into the locker room dap up and say it's all love. We know that's how it is. So like I said just always pushing one another, always pushing one another to be our best and that's kind of what Clemson football does."

Lastly, for Shipley's role himself, it's not just on the field that he sees what he needs to bring to this team. "Off the field is my leadership. Kind of putting other players and people into those leadership roles. Kind of stepping and being able to manage a little more, continuing to be vocal. But on the field, I'm hoping to do a lot of the same things I did last year along with breaking some of those big runs that I left on the table. Have a couple more catches out of the backfield, whether it's screens, lining up in the slot, I think those opportunities are gonna be there. So I've been working on it this offseason and I'm ready to show everybody that I can do it."
