In the day and age of pass-happy offenses where the ball comes out quicker and quicker, a primary focus of modern defenses becomes edge rushers. The quicker you can get to the quarterback the less time your secondary has to cover. Myles Murphy, who was just picked in the 1st round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is living proof Clemson knows what they're doing at this position.

Darien Mayo is one of the targets that Dabo Swinney has set his eyes on and for good reason, it's pretty hard to miss him. Standing at 6'7 and 240 lbs Mayo has the eyes of many of the country's best following him lately. However, Mayo recently came out and narrowed his interest down to 6 schools for the remainder of his recruitment: Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, South Carolina, and Maryland.

As the home state, Maryland makes the cut, but it shouldn't surprise anyone to see the other names still in the running. Mayo is ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking as the No. 186 player in the country and the No. 6 best player out of Maryland. On3 themselves, on the other hand, has a more optimistic view of Mayo so far as they moved him up to the No. 89 player in the country overall and No. 2 in Maryland.

Ohio State may currently be viewed as the favorite the Tigers definitely aren't out of it. What gets Clemson in the final group with a shot? Mayo told Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports: “Love the culture and the staff down there. Coach Dabo and Coach Ski are great people, and it feels like family down there.” Culture and family have been the driving forces behind Swinney's success for years now and it doesn't appear if that's changing now.
