Jaylyn Sherrod scored a career-high 34 points to lead No. 8 Colorado (11-1, 1-0 Pac-12) to a 76-65 victory over No. 12 Utah (10-3, 0-1 Pac-12). The senior guard from Birmingham, Ala. added a team-high six steals, four rebounds and four assists in the win.

Following a back-and-forth first half, the Buffaloes and Utes were tied at 33 during intermission. Utah surged ahead to a 61-53 lead with 8:18 remaining in the fourth quarter. Colorado then went on a 13-0 run to take a 66-61 lead with 4:03 left in the game and never looked back. Behind 13 points from Sherrod alone, the Buffs outscored the Utes 25-6 in the fourth quarter.

JP Payne’s squad scored 23 points off 20 turnovers committed by Utah and outscored them 46-40 in the paint. Aaronette Vonleh dropped 18 points and Sara-Rose Smith added 11 points, four assists and a team-high 12 rebounds off the bench for the Buffs. Alissa Pili paced the way for the Utes with 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Colorado improved to 22-21 all-time against Utah with the victory. The Buff will hit the road to open the new year with a matchup against Arizona (8-4) on Friday, January 5.
