It’s no secret that Coach Prime wants a strong veteran presence in his locker room.

There are currently 19 graduate students on the Buffaloes’ roster. For the most part, these are “one and done” transfer students looking for a better opportunity to close out their college careers. This formula worked well at Jackson State and seems to also be making a very positive impact on the Colorado locker room.

Coaches have raved about Jimmy Horn Jr., Jordan Domineck, Shane Cokes and other graduates for their leadership on and off the field.

But, when Coach Prime was put on the spot to name a player who has impressed him, Xavier was top of mind.

“Xavier Weaver, for one,” said Deion Sanders.

“All those guys, they’re so versatile and they can score from anywhere on the field, and that presents a tremendous threat to defensive backs. They can take a quick hitch and go, Xavier can go…..and they definitely have a quarterback that can get it to them.”

Weaver's coming off of a career high 53 catches and six touchdowns. While he certainly hopes to exceed those benchmarks, this is an extremely deep wide receiver room with Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn, Jr. expected to be starters. But Weaver is right there as well.

“He’s going to have a big year,” said Shedeur Sanders.

“I feel like he understands... what we are trying to accomplish this year, and it’s a receiver friendly offense and so we are able to put up a lot of points, get a lot of yards,  and score a lot of touchdowns.”
