The "Prime Effect" has brought in a lot of revenue over the past year. From ticket sales to merchandise records, there have been a lot of hot items related to the Colorado Buffaloes. Sports bettors can be added to the list of those cashing in on Deion Sanders' rise in Boulder. Love it or hate it, there's no surprise that people are lining up to place their bets at sportsbooks nationwide.

Coach Prime recently brought up the topic while on Robert Griffin III's podcast 'The Ones'. He revealed just how much money was placed on Colorado last year.

“We just had a team meeting downstairs with compliance and so forth, academics, and they were telling the kids about not betting,” Sanders said. “They said, ‘700 million dollars were bet on Colorado games last year... 700 million’. I said, ‘Can we get a cut?’"

The State of Colorado cleared the way for sports betting three years ago and the initiative has paid off in a major way.  The tax revenue generated by sports betting doubled last fiscal year to about $25.6 million, according to a report issued by the state.

Sanders went on to talk about the celebrity guest lists on the sidelines for games. He explained how recruits found it to be noteworthy in the process. One of the few to meet some of his idols was Jordan Seaton, who turned down a multi-million dollar offer from Tennessee to come to CU.

“These kids are excited about being in this place, and not only that, seeing an RG3, seeing The Rock, seeing Da Baby, seeing Lil Wayne, seeing all of these guys on the sideline that they can glean from,” Sanders said.

“Most of these guys come from humble beginnings, so when you’re seeing somebody that you’ve only listened to musically or seeing them on a video, now you’re seeing them right there and you can touch them and ask them questions… Do you know how valuable that is to a young man?”

Sanders and the Buffs are quickly approaching National Signing Day on Feb. 7. The 2024 Spring Game isn't too far away and will be the first time seeing CU's newest additions.
