Shedeur Sanders named to Manning Award midseason watch list

Shedeur joins 15 other midseason additions to the award’s watch list

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced Shedeur Sanders to its 2023 watch list additions.

Shedeur is currently leading the nation with 2,420 passing yards. He also thrown for 21 touchdowns while compiling a 160.3 quarterback rating. 

After announcing 33 quarterbacks to its preseason watch list, the Manning Award opted to increase its spotlighted players based on the many outstanding performances during the first half of the year. While these players have been added to the Watch List, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible to win the honor.

The award was created to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. In its first 19 years, Manning has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 14 different schools and from four different conferences.

The last Pac-12 quarterback to win the award was Marcus Mariota from Oregon in 2014. USC’s Matt Leinart won the very first award in 2004.

Finalists for the honor will be determined by a select panel of national college football media, as well as each of the Mannings. That list will be released on Thursday, November 30th and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
