Colorado's Deion Sanders says last year's Buffaloes had 'dead eyes'

In this story:
Deion Sanders wasn't satisfied with the team he inherited. It's a major reason why the Colorado football coach needed a complete overhaul to get to where he's at currently.
Coach Prime addressed the media in Boulder on Friday and unapologetically pulled no punches when talking about the previous Buffaloes team. However, as honest as Sanders was on the surface, he was truly hurting on the inside to see a lack of desire for the game of football. It's part of the mentality for the Hall-of-Famer, who took over at CU to start of the year.
"When you're looking at a body of just dead eyes, that’s tough on any coach," Sanders explained.
"It's not just me. I'm pretty sure a multitude of coaches have experienced that until they can clean house and get the roster that they want. It was tremendously challenging day-by-day."
Sanders took on the challenge of flipping a roster by keeping ten players from the previous year. He utilized the transfer portal to reel in players, and the rest was history. It didn't stop the criticism from hailing down on Coach Prime. Mostly from people like Oklahoma's Brent Venables, who said Sanders should've given the holdover players a year to prove themselves. Say what you will, but Sanders and the Buffs are in a better place.
"I’m happy with what I’m seeing every morning now," Sanders said.
Colorado has over 70 new players with a melting pot roster going into the 2023 football season. A team that has never seen on film before, and nobody truly knows what to except at game speed.
Sanders is ready for the task at hand, knowing it's Colorado vs. Everybody. He’s three weeks away from his FBS debut against TCU. The featured Game of the Week on FOX's Big Noon Saturday.
