Colorado Buffaloes two-way player Travis Hunter has been on everyone’s radar since he followed Coach Prime from Jackson State. Now, he’s receiving the recognition he deserves.

After earning preseason All-American honors from Athlon Sports, the defensive back turned receiver was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list. The former top overall recruit and top-ranked NCAA transfer came to Boulder with 15 tackles, 2 INTs, and 8 PDUs. He also had 18 catches for 190 yards and six total touchdowns.

Hunter is a generational talent to say the least. He along with Cormani McClain are expected to be two of the most feared secondary specialists Colorado has ever produced. Hunter brings an explosive playmaking ability that will be unmatched against the top-tier Pac-12 QB’s. Additionally, he was the highest-rated five-star to commit to an HBCU.

The Lott IMPACT Trophy honors college football’s best in character and performance. The award is unique because it represents the first college football award to give equal weight to personal character as well as athletic performance from a defensive college player and is the first national college football award based on the West Coast.

The award is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Forever Buff Joel Klatt, who is currently a wildly-popular Fox Sports’ analyst, was the emcee for the Lott Trophy presentation last year. Hunter is the first CU player to make the watch list since the awards’ inception in 2004.
