Sav’ell Smalls has decided to make an adjustment to his future in Boulder. The former five-star edge rusher is moving to tight end at Colorado starting next season.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Washington transfer was one of the nation’s top recruits from the 2020 class and fits more naturally with the Buffs offense. Smalls was a MaxPreps All-American as a two-way star at Kennedy Catholic (Washington). Being one of the top defensive minds will be crucial to his transition at this level.

Smalls wasn't featured much in Charles Kelly defensive scheme last year. He appeared in four games for the Buffs with two total tackles. He'll be one of the best blocking tight end for Pat Shurmur's offense and could easily pick up a good amount of production.

Colorado relied on Michael Harrison at the tight end position last year. The former walk-on became a go-to target for Shedeur Sanders with 31 receptions for 284 yards and five touchdowns. He followed former CU offensive coordinator Sean Lewis to San Diego State.

Smalls brings a much-needed boost for the Buffs in his final season.
