Shedeur Sanders' rare reaction to Coach Prime shows outstanding maturity

The Buffaloes QB is prepared for the next level thanks to his father

Shedeur Sanders had a rare reaction during Tuesday's press conference in Boulder. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it's nearly predictable from Coach Prime's youngest son. He talked about preparations going into Saturday's matchup with Arizona State. A straightforward press conference with him sitting down and fielded questions.

Typically, Coach Prime will address the media as the opening act followed by a Buffs player. Today, it was reversed and Shedeur went first in place of his pops. But he wasn't far away. A little over halfway through it, while in mid-question, Shedeur turned to look to the door on the right as Coach Prime all but ran through it.

Almost as if he thought he might’ve been late. Shedeur looked up at him and said, “I’m busy man.” Then almost without a word, Coach Prime just walks behind Shedeur and takes his seat off-camera to the left. Once Shedeur realized his dad was going to sit in on his press conference, Shedeur gave a flurry of “Naw, man!” It was a fun glimpse into the personal relationship between father and son or Coach and QB.

The youngest Sanders son has never needed guidance or handholding when it comes to holding court with the media. Outside of Travis Hunter, Shedeur is without question one of the players on CU's roster who is "media ready."

It is not a stretch to say, Sanders is better prepared to meet with the media than even a large portion of NFL players. Deion Sanders did not run in to make sure no reporters were asking strange questions, taking his words out of context or in any other measurable way, taking advantage of Shedeur. If they were, Shedeur is more than capable to handle such a situation on his own.

This happened one other time since Coach Prime arrived in Boulder. It was at CU Football's Media Day. A handful of coaches and half of the roster was in attendance. Coach Prime quietly sat in the back of the room where he and Shilo had side conversations while Shedeur addressed the media. Once "Grown" noticed that Prime was staying, they exchanged banter back and forth for a couple minutes from about 30 feet away. Today’s example was much shorter and within a close proximity.

While many people will think this is just what a good father does, and I agree with that notion, this is something different. Any father worth his salt can see Coach Prime and how he interacts with his children, knows he is great at what he does. However, Sanders doesn’t have to be present at these media availability times, because like in many other ways, he has prepared him.
