GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida sophomore safety Miguel Mitchell announced via On3 Sports on Wednesday that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal following two seasons with the Gators.

A product of Oxford (Ala.) High and consensus three-star prospect from the 2022 recruiting cycle, Mitchell was a late addition to Florida's commitment class after the Dec. 2021 hiring of head coach Billy Napier.

Tennessee, LSU and Oregon were among the programs alongside UF to pursue Mitchell before the class of 2022 National Signing Day.

Mitchell went on to appear in 24 games for Florida, making eight starts as a sophomore in 2023, although UF opted for a true freshmen first-team tandem of Jordan Castell and Bryce Thornton by the end of the campaign. Mitchell finishes his Gators career having tallied 52 tackles with 1.5 for loss, one interception, three passes defended and a forced fumble.

Mitchell is the 16th member of Florida's 2023 roster with plans to transfer this offseason.

He chronologically follows defensive back Jadarrius Perkins, offensive tackle Jordan Herman, tight end Jonathan Odom, kicker Adam Mihalek, defensive back Kamari Wilson, defensive lineman Will Norman, quarterback Max Brown, wide receiver Caleb Douglas, wide receiver Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman, defensive lineman Keenan Landry, tight end Andrew Savaiinaea, defensive lineman Chris McClellan, offensive lineman Jalen Farmer, edge rusher Princely Umanmielen and running back Trevor Etienne.

Brown and Douglas have since respectively announced transfer commitments to Charlotte and Texas Tech.
