Florida CFO Patronis Doubles Down On NCAA After UF Hit With NIL Investigation
Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) is doubling down on his claim that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is out to get football programs from the Sunshine State.
On Friday, it was reported by Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times that the University of Florida has been under investigation since June 9 for alleged NIL recruiting violations with former potential Florida quarterback recruit Jaden Rashada.
After it was announced that Florida State would be receiving sanctions for NIL recruiting violations, CFO Patronis accused NCAA President and former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker (R) earlier this month of seeking retaliation against the State of Florida.
Reports show that FSU did in fact violate NIL and recruiting standards.
Patronis believes the need to enact revenge is related to when Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) sent approximately 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Dukes County, Massachusetts while Baker was governor.
“Pretty obvious the NCAA and Charlie Baker have it out for teams in the Sunshine State. They let NIL run wild and now they desperately want to put the cat back in the bag. Damn shame what they’ve done to college football,” said Patronis.
Furthermore, in August of 2023, Patronis sent a letter to Baker requesting that Miami transfer Darrell Jackson Jr.’s hardship waiver be granted so that he could play the 2023 season. However, that request was denied by Baker.
In response, Patronis called Baker and the NCAA a bunch of “out-of-touch hypocrites” and even threatened legal action.
