FSU Football Coaches, Players React to Transfer Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei Committing To 'Noles

FSU's newest quarterback will bring much-needed experience to the room.

After closing out the 2023 season with a 13-1 record, including a conference championship for the first time since 2014, the Florida State Seminoles began the new year with a hot start off the field, as the Seminoles landed a commitment from one of the biggest names in the transfer portal in the 2023 cycle, DJ Uiagalelei.

After signing with Clemson out of high school, where he was a consensus five-star recruit, he backed up Trevor Lawrence for two years, earning the starting role in 2021. During his tenure with the Tigers, he had a 22-6 record as a starter, and after being benched for the 2022 ACC Championship game, Uiagalalei entered the transfer portal where he would soon find himself at Oregon State.

In his lone season with the Beavers, Uiagalalei passed for 2,638 yards, with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions, as well as rushing for 216 yards with six another TDs on the ground. His 27 total touchdowns helped Oregon State reach an 8-4 record to close out the regular season, standing at fourth in the Pac-12.

Although Uiagalelei may not have had his best season statistically during 2023, his large frame and overall success as a signal caller means there is a lot to look forward to in Tallahassee this upcoming year. For that reason, fans were quick to take to social media when Uiagalelei announced he would be joining the Tribe24 class for his final season of collegiate football.
