Joshua Burrell Changes Number, Two Players Removed From FSU's Roster After Spring Portal Window

In this story:
Following a furious 15 days, the NCAA Transfer Portal spring window closed at the conclusion of Sunday. Florida State had eight scholarship players depart during the period - safety Omarion Cooper, linebacker Brendan Gant, offensive lineman Zane Herring, defensive tackle Antavious Woody, linebacker Stephen Dix Jr., safety Travis Jay, wide receiver Mycah Pittman, and defensive tackle Bishop Thomas - and also lost defensive end Derrick McLendon II earlier in the spring.

Four of those players have already found new programs. Herring committed to USF over the weekend while McLendon, Gant, and Cooper all landed at Colorado.
With the summer over and multiple players leaving Florida State, there have been a couple of updates to the roster.
To start off, it's important to note that defensive tackle Joshua Farmer is back on the roster after withdrawing from the transfer portal last week. Farmer announced his intentions to explore his options elsewhere before quickly reversing course and deciding to stay in Tallahassee. He's expected to play a sizable role this fall.
Elsewhere, redshirt sophomore Joshua Burrell has switched back to a familiar number. After wearing No. 12 this past season, Burrell is now listed at No. 81. It's the same number he wore during his first year at Florida State where he primarily played wide receiver. Burrell is regarded as an athlete on the roster as he's split time between wide receiver and running back.
Last year, injuries during the preseason forced the Seminoles to move Burrell to the backfield. He displayed promise in practice and appeared in the first nine games of the season before being sidelined due to an injury. Burrell had surgery in December and was unable to suit up during the Spring Showcase. It's unclear if his number change means he's headed back to wide receiver but the move would make sense after Malik McClain and Mycah Pittman transferred from Florida State this offseason.
Outside of the nine scholarship players who left the program during the spring, there have been a pair of walk-ons that were recently removed from the roster.
Redshirt senior wide receiver Fernando Padron and redshirt freshman Colin King no longer appear on Florida State's online roster.
Padron had been with the program since 2019 and spent most of his time contributing to the scout team. He made his collegiate debut during Florida State's 49-17 victory against Louisiana last season.
King joined the Seminoles as a PWO in the 2022 class. He worked with the scout team while redshirting during his first year in Tallahassee. King was an all-state and two-time all-area offensive lineman at Spruce Creek High School. He finished second in shot put at the 2022 4A District 3 Championships.
Florida State is projected to be sitting around 80 allocated scholarships for the 2023 season. The Seminoles could potentially add five players to the roster ahead of fall camp.
