Mike Norvell Discusses Format of FSU Football Spring Showcase, NCAA Transfer Portal

"We'll have a little bit of fun there at the end of it, but, yeah, we're going to get good work."

The Florida State Seminoles are wrapping up spring camp, and The Annual Florida State Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase is right around the corner, set to take place on April 20 at 4:00 p.m. The 'Noles have been preparing through 12 practices, and fans will get a glimpse of their team performing with the vast influx of transfers and freshmen now on the roster.

The Spring Showcase isn't technically a "spring game," as the format is slightly different from what you would normally see programs do across the country. Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media after Tuesday's practice and discussed the format, which will be similar to years past.

"It's going to be, you know, it's not a game; it's a showcase. It's going to be offense and defense. We'll roll through a kind of modified timing," Norvell said. "The main part of the scoring will all be in the grand finale, which we're excited about getting a couple of past players (that were) part of the '99 team that was really special. And it's going to be a lot of fun just to see those guys coming back, being a part of it."

Four guest coaches from the 1999 wire-to-wire National Championship Team to participate at the end of the showcase. Former FSU stars Tommy Polly, Corey Simon, Travis Minor, and Peter Warrick will all take turns calling plays for the garnet and gold squads.

"You guys have all seen the post, but we got Tommy Polly, we got Travis Minor, we got Cory Simon and Peter Warrick. So, you know, four great Florida State Seminoles, and those guys will be getting an opportunity to go," Norvell continued. "We'll have a little bit of fun there at the end of it, but, yeah, we're going to get good work, and, for the guys that are available, there'll be some that will be limited, but it's a great opportunity to, to go out there and have, have a chance to go get better."

The NCAA spring transfer window opened on April 16, and the Seminoles have already seen players like defensive back Greedy Vance announce their intentions to transfer. The window extends until the end of April, and the 'Noles could see other players move on or add another player at a position of need. Norvell said that they will continue to evaluate the roster and if they find a fit, th

"We'll continue to evaluate all things. We'll see where our roster is here in the next week or so, and, we understand who we are, what we're about. Ultimately if there's a right situation out there that fits our program, we'll evaluate it and see where that goes. At the end of the day, it's all about us continuing to go get better."
